UNESCO Chair Dr. Derrick Cogburn Highlights Inclusive AI and Digital Education at Global Dialogue

November 17, 2025: The Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP) at American University is proud to announce that Dr. Derrick L. Cogburn, Executive Director of IDPP and Professor in the School of International Service, will join a panel at UNESCO’s webinar, “AI and Digital Education: Global Dialogues and Cross-Cutting Conversations with U.S. UNESCO Chairs.” Dr. Cogburn is also the distinguished current Associate UNESCO Chair in Governing Global Cyberspace.

The session will explore how artificial intelligence and digital technologies are transforming education systems worldwide, emphasizing inclusion, equity, and responsible innovation. Dr. Cogburn will share insights from IDPP’s ongoing research using AI and natural language processing (NLP) to monitor and advance implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The panel also features Dr. Alain Viel (Harvard University), Dr. Dan Wagner (University of Pennsylvania), Dr. Mary Encabo-Bischoff (Purdue University Fort Wayne), and Ms. Shafika Isaacs, Chief of Section for Technology and AI in Education at UNESCO.

This event reflects American University’s leadership in fostering interdisciplinary research on digital inclusion and global policy innovation.
