IDPP at the 10th Conference of States Parties (COSP-10) to the UN CRPD

IDPP will be at the UN Headquarters in New York next week to participate in the 10th Conference of States Parties (COSP-10) to the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. COSP-10 will be held between 13 -1 5 June, 2017 and is slated to be one of the largest and most important gatherings of the global disability community. IDPP has traditionally had multifaceted participation at the conference and this year is no different.

IDPP faculty including Dr. Derrick Cogburn, Dr. Filippo Trevisan, and Dr. Tina Kempin-Reuter will attend this event along with IDPP Doctoral Fellow Mr. Mohammed Ali Loutfy. IDPP and the Institute for Human Rights at University of Alabama-Birmingham will also bring a delegation of graduate and undergraduate students who will serve as official conference rapporteurs.

At the conference, IDPP will be organizing three side events and co-sponsoring two. IDPP will also be testing the use of Double, a robot that helps facilitate remote participation through telepresence. Double was previously used with great success (link in Spanish) at the UN Disaster Risk Reduction conference in Cancun, Mexico. Ms. Stefanie Dannenman, Deputy Head, UNISDR Europe, will be making her presentation via the Double during the June 15 - Accessible Global Governance side event.
