IDPP will present for the first time at the 2017 Disability Summit hosted by the Information Policy and Access Center at University of Maryland College Park. The presentation entitled "Using ICTs to Enhance the Effective Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Global Governance" will take place on Friday, April 21 from 10:10am-11:00am US Eastern Time in Colony Ballroom with an accessible virtual participation option. IDPP Deputy Director Dr. Filippo Trevisan will subsequently present his paper on disability storytelling and political protests during this conference session. In addition, IDPP will present a poster on its recently launched and now publicly available mobile app "CRPD" during the conference.

During its presentation "Using ICTs to Enhance the Effective Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Global Governance" authored by IDPP Executive Director Dr. Derrick Cogburn, Deputy Director Dr. Filippo Trevisan, and Associate Director Ms. Maya Aguilar, IDPP will present its empirical and applied research on using information and communication technologies (ICTs) to enhance accessible global governance processes for the effective participation of the global disability community.
The mobile app "CRPD", which will be showcased as a poster during the Disability Summit, is the first of its kind in the world. This innovative tool supports disability advocacy and participation in global governance by providing ready access to the structure and contents of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its States Parties. It also provides information about the expert UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and on the Secretariat for the CRPD.
The CRPD iOS 10 mobile app commemorates the 10th anniversary of the CRPD and is an initial step towards a comprehensive mobile “CRPD Advocacy Toolkit” which aims to help advance the goal of universal ratification of the CRPD and implementation by States Parties. It is designed to facilitate engagement with organizations and campaigns working on the CRPD, and to promote knowledge of related international frameworks. It is created with the purposes of knowledge, awareness raising, research, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
"CRPD" is the first of several innovations toward a comprehensive iOS mobile “CRPD Advocacy Toolkit” which aims to help advance the goal of universal ratification and implementation by States Parties. The "CRPD" mobile app is a project of IDPP in collaboration with the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities / Division for Social Policy and Development / United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA/DSPD/SCRPD) and The Nippon Foundation.
