IDPP will present for the first time at the 2017 Disability Summit hosted by the Information Policy and Access Center at University of Maryland College Park. The presentation entitled "Using ICTs to Enhance the Effective Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Global Governance" will take place on Friday, April 21 from 10:10am-11:00am US Eastern Time in Colony Ballroom with an accessible virtual participation option. IDPP Deputy Director Dr. Filippo Trevisan will subsequently present his paper on disability storytelling and political protests during this conference session. In addition, IDPP will present a poster on its recently launched and now publicly available mobile app "CRPD" during the conference.
Book Launch: “Making Disability Rights Real in Southeast Asia”
IDPP is excited to announce that our latest book project entitled Making Disability Rights Real in Southeast Asia: Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in ASEAN was published on 24 March 2017. A lecture and book launch hosted by the Institute for Human Rights at the University of Alabama-Birmingham will take place on Thursday, 30 March at Heritage Hall 104 at 6:00pm US Eastern Time with a virtual participation option.
IDPP Launches Beta Version of World’s First CRPD Mobile App
The IDPP at American University has launched today the beta version of “CRPD”, the world’s first mobile application on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This innovation, currently available for iOS devices, supports disability advocacy and accessible participation in global governance processes by providing ready access to the structure, contents, States Parties, and knowledge dissemination around the Convention – the first human rights treaty of the 21st century and the fastest-growing treaty in history.
IDPP Participates in Series of Key UN Disability Meetings
IDPP Executive Director and American University School of International Service Associate Professor Dr. Derrick Cogburn is participating in a series on key United Nations meetings focused on disability, development, digital societies, and CRPD+10 from 28 November – 2 December 2016. The events include the IDPP Side Event “Soft Launch: CRPD Mobile App” on 2 December from 1:15pm-2:30pm in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the 2016 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
IDPP Hosts Two Side Events, Conference Rapporteurs & Deaf Young Leaders at COSP-9
IDPP has multifaceted active participation at this year’s 9th Conference of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP-9) from 14-16 June at United Nations headquarters in New York – the world’s largest gathering of the global disability community. It is organizing two side events - on disability, digital societies and big data; and accessible global governance - as well as organizing official conference rapporteurs and welcoming the delegation of the USA-Indonesia Deaf Youth Leadership Cultural Exchange Program.
