The Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP) at American University (AU) is pleased to share the upcoming launch of Geopolitics at the Internet’s Core, a new book authored by Fiona M. Alexander, Dr. Laura DeNardis, Dr. Nanette S. Levinson, and Dr. Francesca Musiani. The event will take place on September 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM in Car Barn 311 at Georgetown University, and will be moderated by Dr. Derrick L. Cogburn, IDPP’s Executive Director.
The book is published as part of the Information Technology and Global Governance series from Springer / Palgrave and edited by Dr. Derrick Cogburn, which explores how information and communication technologies intersect with global governance, political participation, regulation, rights, security, and power. Geopolitics at the Internet’s Core traces the evolution of the Internet Protocol, showing how it has fueled geopolitical conflicts and policy debates while shaping a contested space for the future of global governance.
The authors bring unparalleled expertise to this work: Dr. Laura DeNardis serves as Georgetown University’s Endowed Chair in Technology, Ethics, and Society and Director of the Center for Digital Ethics. Ms. Fiona M. Alexander is a Distinguished Policy Strategist-in-Residence at American University’s School of International Service (SIS) and has an extensive experience from over two decades at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Dr. Nanette S. Levinson, Professor at AU SIS, also contributes her expertise as Co-Director of the AU Internet Governance Lab. Dr. Francesca Musiani is a Research Professor at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Deputy Director and co-founder of the CNRS Center for Internet and Society.
